Creating Beauty, Fostering Community
It all started with a manager’s special bouquet at the local QFC….
I was in the middle of my graduate school studies, looking for a medium that wouldn’t be as tedious as the oil paintings I was working on. I needed a medium that would give me an instant gratification! While shopping at the local grocery store, I stumbled upon a discount bouquet in the floral department and told myself “I bet I can make a nice arrangement with that sad looking bouquet.” After that, I was hooked. A summer internship with an established floral designer later, I sought to incorporate floral design as part of my creative practice thereafter. I’ve always had a love of flowers from a young age, and growing and experimenting with flowers continues to feel like a calling today.
Since 2012, I have offered floral design services for bespoke small scale events and gatherings. In 2019, I began the process of designing and building my own cut-flower garden, Jardin del Sol (Garden of the Sun), to help supplement my offerings and floral design projects. I grow organically with a variety of perennial, annual, and ornamental plants and flowers specializing in Dahlias - which so happens to be the national flower of Mexico, my native homeland. I love teaching and supporting individuals and small groups in learning simple techniques for creating and designing with flowers and botanical elements. I also practice local foraging to provide for my wreath designs, supplying about 85-90% of my product from privately owned, local gardens. This allows me to continue my commitment to sustainability practices in stewardship of the local environment, focusing on using materials and producing work that is 100% compostable and bio-degradable wherever possible.
I am an alumna of the world-renowned Floret Flower Farming Workshop.
